Southern Medical services is a medical equipment repair company dedicated to providing prompt, reliable service to the San Antonio and South Texas medical, laboratory, and research facilities.  SMS repairs a wide variety of hospital and laboratory equipment as well as performing electrical leakage safety inspections, and preventive maintenance.  SMS can provide service contracts or on call service.  Documentation of repair work and safety inspections will be provided to you as well as being stored in SMS’s main office.  Medicare and JCAHO require this documentation.

 

            Originally a franchise office of Southern Medical Services-Houston, the San Antonio office was started in the early 1970s.  By 1975 all Southern Medical Services offices became independently owned at the local level.  In August 1985, employee Edward Wood became the current owner.  With his wife, Rebecca managing the office, he has expanded the types of repairs and the area of coverage.

 

            SMS is a member of the San Antonio Better Business Bureau, AAMI, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and MERA (Medical Equipment Repair Associates).  SMS is the Texas corporation Woodtronics, Inc. dba Southern Medical Services.  SMS maintains a good relationship with many manufacturers so that supply and repair parts can be ordered with a minimum of trouble and time.  SMS carries a $1 million liability insurance policy which includes completed operations.

 

            All of our technicians have at least an AAS in Biomedical Equipment Technology or were trained by the military.  All of them also have extensive experience working in the field.  Our technicians attend continuing education classes at least once a year.

 

Office hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.  All technicians carry cell phones so they can be reached more easily.  Phone response time for emergencies is two hours.  On site response is usually the same day or within eight business hours.  The customer chooses the option of after hours calls by his own needs-financial and equipment.
